Lighting Designer (3-7 years of experience)

Integral Light Studio is seeking a  Lighting Designer to join our growing team.  We are seeking motivated candidates with excellent design skills, technical fluidity and desire to learn. While the position will be primarily focused on architectural lighting design, our studio provides integrated daylighting and lighting design services, so interest in developing daylighting skills is essential. In addition, a position at the Integral Light Studio, offers numerous opportunities to engage with other disciplines including building performance, electrical engineering, and sustainability. Those with very strong design skills, but little experience with lighting, are encouraged to apply. Position also offers potential for growth over time.   


Provide lighting support to the Senior Designers/Team Leaders as follows:

  • Preparation of lighting design concepts
  • Development of lighting design concepts and creation of presentations and sketch visualizations to support concepts 
  • Create and revise lighting models/layouts in Revit 
  • Prepare lighting simulation models and conduct lighting calculations 
  • Produce visualizations and renderings using ElumTools/AGI/Radiance, etc. 
  • Select light fixtures and write luminaire schedules 
  • Coordinate internally with other disciplines and externally with clients and other consultants 
  • Attend meetings, charrettes and site visits with senior team members 


  • Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Lighting, or related field 
  • 3-7 years of lighting design experience  
  • Coursework or experience in lighting, daylighting or building performance preferred, but not required 
  • Great design sensibilities 
  • Excellent graphic communication skills  
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills  
  • Eagerness to learn new skills sets, technologies, standards, etc. 
  • Ability to take direction and be collaborative and adaptable 
  • Ability to proactively manage time and to meet deadlines 
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail   
  • Passion for architecture and lighting  


  • Preferred: Revit 
  • AutoCAD/BIM
  • Rhino/Sketchup/3D Studio Max or similar 3D modeling software 
  • ElumTools/AGI32 or other lighting software 
  • Radiance, DIVA-for-Rhino, Honeybee/Ladybug preferred 
  • Adobe Creative Suite 
  • Microsoft Office
